Tango in the present

Tango in the present

A few years ago the phenomenon of musical fusion between musical expressions began in earnest. Most of the spreading of fusions took place with universally accepted music like jazz, rock and electronic mixing with local and/or ethnic music.

Eventually this trend reached tango too. Fusion of tango, rock and electronic music abound in Argentina today. Examples of this are the Bajofondo Tango Club, Tanghetto or Gotan Project (w/electronic). Some musicians playing fusion of tango and jazz are pianist Adrian Laies, counter bass  Pablo Aslan, and saxophone player Miguel de Caro.
Many young people orchestras try to interpret tango by using new codes: 34 Puñaladas, Altertango, Alfredo Piro & Astillero. Beginning in the 90’s many rock musicians turned their attention towards tango, e.g. Daniel Melingo, Rodolfo Gorosito (w/ his trio Gorosito – Cataldi – De La Vega ).
